Book a short, focused tour if you have two or three hours, an inland day trip if you want Lekurësi Castle, the Blue Eye and Gjirokastër, and a coastal boat day if you would rather be on the water than in a minibus. Sarandë's tour market splits cleanly along that line, and the listed options are sold as single bookable departures rather than a hop-on service.

This guide sorts the advertised tours by duration, from a three-hour run to the Blue Eye and Lekurësi Castle up to a twelve- to fourteen-hour day reaching Ksamil, so you can match a booking to the time you actually have. It separates inland minibus days from boat trips leaving the coast, because that is the real choice most visitors face, and it works from the from-prices the booking platform advertises.

Saranda tours: the main choices at a glance

Four kinds of tour are advertised from Sarandë: inland days linking the Blue Eye, Gjirokastër and Lekurësi Castle; half-days combining Butrint with Ksamil; coastal boat trips to Krorëz, Kakome and hidden caves; and longer excursions to Përmet or south to Qeparo and Himarë. Each is listed with a fixed duration and a from-price per adult, so comparing them on those fields is quicker than reading the marketing.

For orientation before you commit, the Saranda map shows where the harbour, the promenade and the road out towards Ksamil sit relative to one another, which helps you judge how early a departure will start. For the places themselves, start with Things to Do in Saranda, and read Saranda Attractions: 6 Visitor Guides if a tour name refers to somewhere you have not yet looked at properly.

Language options vary by listing: the twelve- to fourteen-hour Ksamil, Blue Eye and Sarandë guided tour is advertised in English, Italian and Spanish, while the other listed experiences are shown in English only. Free cancellation is flagged on the listed experiences, which is worth having if a boat day depends on sea conditions.

Day trips inland: Blue Eye, Gjirokastër and Lekurësi Castle

The most compact inland option pairs the Blue Eye with Lekurësi Castle in a roughly three-hour guided tour, the shortest way to see both on one ticket. It suits an arrival afternoon or a morning before a late flight, when a full day out is not realistic. Lekurësi Castle sits on the hill above Sarandë and gives views over the bay, so clear weather is the whole point.

Longer inland tours bundle more stops. One listing runs nine hours from an 08:50 departure back at 18:00 and takes in six named places, among them Lekurësi Castle, the Blue Eye and Gjirokastër, so expect a full day with short stops rather than a slow afternoon in any one place. If you would rather linger in Gjirokastër's old town, a multi-stop day will feel rushed.

Private versions of the Blue Eye, Gjirokastër and Lekurësi route are also sold, which removes the shared-vehicle timetable but not the road time. The trade-off is cost per person against flexibility: a shared small-group departure spreads the cost, while a private car makes sense when the group itself fills one.

Butrint and Ksamil: the half-day pairing

Sponsored

Butrint and Ksamil are sold together as one five-hour half-day guided tour from Sarandë. The archaeological site and the Ksamil shoreline sit on the same road south, so packaging them saves a second booking and a second journey. If your main interest is the ruins, the combined format gives you less time on site than a dedicated visit would.

That half-day is the easiest tour to fit around other plans: it leaves most of the day intact and returns you to Sarandë for the evening. Five hours is roughly the minimum that makes the journey south worthwhile, so do not try to compress Butrint and Ksamil into something shorter.

Boat trips from Sarandë: Krorëz, Kakome and hidden caves

Two distinct boat days are advertised, and they are not interchangeable. One is a seven-hour boat trip to Krorëz and Kakome; the other is a five- to six-hour boat tour to hidden caves and beaches that includes snorkelling. Choose the first for remote coastal stops and the second if you want to be in the water with a mask.

Both are boat days, so weather is the variable that decides how they feel: sea conditions are not something a booking page can guarantee. Check the forecast before an early departure and keep a shore day in reserve if the coast turns choppy.

Saranda Tours, a local operator based in Sarandë, advertises transfers and day tours in the same area, including Ksamil, Butrint, Gjirokastër and the Blue Eye, and takes bookings on its own site. Use it as a price and route comparison against the larger booking platforms, since the itineraries on each are not necessarily the same.

Longer excursions: Përmet's thermal pools, and Qeparo with Himarë

Two longer excursions push beyond the immediate Sarandë hinterland: an eight-hour day to Përmet built around nature, food and thermal pools, and a six-hour small-group tour south to Qeparo and Himarë. Both are full half-day-plus commitments and both involve substantial road time in each direction.

Treat these as the choice for travellers who have already done the Blue Eye and Butrint and want to see more of southern Albania. The Përmet day is the longest single outing advertised from Sarandë short of the twelve- to fourteen-hour Ksamil combination, so do not book it the day before an early flight.

Tour durations compared

Laid out by length, the advertised choices run: about three hours for the Blue Eye and Lekurësi Castle; five hours for Butrint with Ksamil; five to six hours for the caves and snorkelling boat; six hours for Qeparo and Himarë; seven hours for the Krorëz and Kakome boat; eight hours for Përmet; nine hours for the six-stop inland day; and twelve to fourteen hours for Ksamil with the Blue Eye and Sarandë. Anything at seven hours or more consumes a whole day.

Durations on these listings describe the total experience, travel included, not time at each stop. On a twelve- to fourteen-hour day, the hours spent in the vehicle are significant, which is the honest argument for splitting the itinerary across two shorter tours instead.

Prices and what free cancellation covers

Advertised prices per adult are given in pounds sterling: from about 19 for the Sarandë boat tour to hidden caves and beaches with snorkelling, 37 for the Blue Eye and Lekurësi Castle tour, 46 each for the Krorëz and Kakome boat and the Butrint with Ksamil half-day, 59 for the twelve- to fourteen-hour Ksamil and Blue Eye day, 67 for Përmet, and 93 for the Qeparo and Himarë small-group tour. These are the booking platform's advertised from-prices per adult in pounds, not quotes in lek or euros, and they can change.

Free cancellation is flagged on the listed experiences, and the terms attached to each booking set out what that covers. Read them before you pay, because a boat trip cancelled inside the window usually cannot be refunded, and a weather cancellation by the tour company is handled under different terms.

Small-group versus standard tours

Only some departures are flagged as smaller group size, and the flag is the booking platform's own, not a published headcount. The Qeparo and Himarë tour is advertised specifically as a small group, and private versions of the Blue Eye and Gjirokastër route are also available. If group size is the deciding factor for you, ask the tour company for the maximum number when you book instead of inferring it.

Smaller groups generally mean more time at stops and a slower pace on the same road, which matters most on the long days. On the short three-hour tour the difference is barely noticeable.

Booking in advance versus on the day

Sponsored

Booking ahead is the safer default for the boat trips and the long inland days, because a sold-out departure leaves you looking for an alternative at short notice. The short Blue Eye and Lekurësi tour is the easiest to pick up late, since it fits around other plans.

Independent write-ups and operator pages add options beyond the main platforms and are useful for cross-checking what a route actually involves. Local operators advertise airport and hotel transfers alongside tours, which is convenient if your arrival day and a tour day can be combined.

Before you pay, confirm the meeting point and the language of the guide for your chosen departure. Plan your meals around the advertised return time, as you may not be back for a late lunch.

Match the tour to the hours you have

With a spare afternoon, book the three-hour Blue Eye and Lekurësi Castle tour and keep the rest of the day free. With a full day and a taste for ruins and coast, take the five-hour Butrint and Ksamil half-day; with a whole day and a preference for water, choose between the seven-hour Krorëz and Kakome boat and the shorter caves-and-snorkelling boat.

Only commit to the nine-hour six-stop day or the twelve- to fourteen-hour Ksamil combination if you have nothing planned the next morning, and treat the Përmet and Qeparo excursions as second-visit choices. Whatever you pick, check the cancellation terms at the moment of booking, since that is what protects you if the sea or the weather turns; the Things to Do in Saranda guide covers the stops in more depth.
