Sarandë sightseeing: plan your spring, castle and ruins
Sarandë's sights split sharply between the coast road and the hills, and the biggest draw lies well inland: the Blue Eye spring, down the Bistrica valley near Muzinë, pulls far more search interest than anything in town. Lëkurësi Castle comes next, the free Ottoman fortress on the hill above the bay.
Plan around distance. The Blue Eye needs a 2km walk from the car park to a fenced viewing platform, and swimming is banned site-wide, so set aside 2-3 hours for the water rather than a dip. Lëkurësi takes about 2 hours, with free entry and the lane branching off at the Qafë Gjashtë turning, though parking fills fast before sunset.
Inland trips reward drivers. Finiq, above the Vrina plain, holds a theatre, walls and acropolis, and wants half a day by your own car or a waiting driver; an hour leaves most of the hill unseen. Mesopotam's Late Byzantine church shows carved animals and restored frescoes, with scaffolding possibly still inside.
Central Sarandë fits a short stop at the synagogue basilica near the city hall, where two mosaic floors lie under sand, so many see only wall photographs. The Monastery of 40 Saints on the Gjashtë ridge takes 30-60 minutes on a Lëkurësi day, with sturdy shoes for rough ground.

Finiq (Phoenice) Archaeological Park: Visiting Guide

20-30 minutes · Best for Byzantine carving enthusiasts with a car

Saranda Synagogue: Visiting Albania's Ancient Synagogue Basilica

Monastery of 40 Saints, Saranda: Visiting the Hilltop Ruins
A short, exposed ruin on the ridge above Saranda, where forty chambers are said to honour the forty saints. Worth 30 to 60 minutes as a stop on a Lëkurësi day; the uphill approach and rough ground catch people out, so bring sturdy shoes and water.
30-60 minutes · Best for walkers pairing it with Lëkurësi
What rewards a phone call or a reservation
Lëkurësi Castle is the one place where booking is worth it: entry is free, but a table at the hilltop restaurant should be reserved, especially before sunset when the parking fills fast. Everything else runs on arrival or a phone call.
For Mesopotam Monastery, access isn't guaranteed, so phone ahead before driving out from Sarandë. The Blue Eye needs no booking, but bring cash: parking and entry are both charged at the gate. Finiq and the synagogue basilica are flexible stops to fit around your day.
One day, two priorities
With a single day, give the Blue Eye the morning: 2-3 hours covers the 2km walk each way and the viewing platform, and swimming is banned throughout. Drive back for Lëkurësi Castle in the late afternoon, allowing 2 hours, free entry, and time on the hill for the sweep of bay and sea, and Corfu on a clear day.
If ruins matter more than water, swap the spring for Finiq and stay half a day on the hill above the Vrina plain. Add 20-30 minutes at the synagogue basilica near the city hall only if you are already central.
