Planning Shkodër sightseeing: castle views and a river bridge
Shkodër's sights pull in two directions. Rozafa Castle sits on the rocky hill at the town's entrance, its walls enclosing three courtyards and a church that spent centuries as a mosque, with the Drin, Kir and Buna rivers braiding together below. Up there, adult tickets cost 400 lek at the gate and under-12s go free, and an hour and a half is a fair allowance.
Down in town, the Marubi National Museum of Photography on Rruga Kolë Idromeno holds a family archive of over 500,000 negatives and takes about an hour. The Site of Witness and Memory on Bulevardi Skënderbeu, a former Sigurimi headquarters, also runs to roughly an hour.
Out of town, the thirteenth-century Mes Bridge in Postribë, about 5 km northeast, is free, with no ticket office or gate; its cobbled deck has no railings, and the Kir often runs nearly dry in summer. Thirty minutes covers it, making it a natural half-day loop for drivers and cyclists.
