Vlorë attractions: how to plan the shrine walk and the square
Most of what you will want to see in Vlorë sits within a short stretch of the centre, but the shape of a day here is set by one modest climb. Kuzum Baba, the Bektashi shrine above eastern Vlorë, asks for a 30 m ascent and repays it with the city, the sea and the Narta Lagoon spread out below; set aside an hour, dress modestly and go late for the light.
Back down in central Vlorë, Flag Square holds the Independence Monument and the obelisk marking the 1912 declaration. It is open paving with no ticket and no shade at midday, so 15 to 20 minutes is plenty before you carry on into the streets.
The Muradie Mosque, a 16th-century stone building with a minaret, is another short stop on foot in the centre. It remains a working place of worship, so getting inside depends on the day rather than on a ticket.
For the history itself, the National Museum of Independence near the Port of Vlorë explains the 1912 proclamation, with the balcony where the flag went up as the reason to go. An hour covers the compact displays, and the entrance fee was 300 lek (about €2.50) in 2022.

Muradie Mosque, Vlorë: Visiting the Lead Mosque
A 16th-century stone mosque with a minaret in central Vlorë, reached on foot and best treated as a short stop. It is a working place of worship, so don't count on getting inside — check at the door on the day.

National Museum of Independence, Vlorë: Visitor Guide
Albania's independence was proclaimed here in 1912, and the balcony where the flag was raised is the main reason to visit. Allow about an hour; the displays are compact, and the building's exterior has changed, so don't navigate by old photos.

Pairing the centre with the hill
Flag Square and the Muradie Mosque both sit in central Vlorë and work as one easy outing on foot, 15 to 20 minutes at each, with the square as your orientation point before the mosque. Keep them together and leave the climb for its own slot.
Kuzum Baba occupies a terrace above eastern Vlorë, reached by a short 30 m ascent, so treat it as a separate hour rather than tacking it onto a centre walk. The National Museum of Independence, south of the centre near the Port of Vlorë, fits an hour either side of a port-side wander.
What costs nothing
Kuzum Baba asks no entry charge, which makes the shrine and its terrace views the best-value hour in the city. Flag Square is likewise open public space with no ticket, so the orientation stop costs only the time you give it.
